Trainsetting Europe: In Bruges

Trainsetting Europe: In Bruges

Since I committed myself to conquering most of Belgium in one day on The Blonde Gypsy Ambition Tour, I had to move fast and make some pretty bold decisions. Bold decisions like braving the country’s most visited city at midday on a Sunday.

The historic center of Bruges/Brugge really is a sight to see, straight out of a medieval storybook, so it didn’t come as a surprise that a vast majority of the people I encountered on its streets were tour groups, backpackers and average couples on a “romantic weekend getaway”. Under normal circumstances, I probably would have been incredibly irritated, but since they were abnormal circumstances (trying to visit 3 Belgian cities in a day?), I just rolled with it and actually ended up having a really nice time strolling around for three hours. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right?

Three hours is definitely not enough time if you really want to experience Bruges. If you just want to have a look like I did, it’s more than enough time. The city is very compact, the train station is close to the center, and there are tons of directional signs to keep you from getting lost. A Western European legend for sure, braving the tourists of Bruges was more than worth it and I’d definitely recommend you do it too if you ever find yourself in the Benelux hood.
